Julie's Story

Have had several long-term careers. Started out studying organic gardening at a community in Ca. in the late 70's. Moved to Ruidoso,New Mexico in 1979, became a full time landscaper for 10 years. Moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in '89 and took up wood finishing, particularly faux antiques on hand-built furniture. For several years now have been a buyer for 3 retail stores in Santa Fe. 12 years have lived at 8,200 feet mountaintop hide-away tending the foxes and rattlers. And you? Teachers I would love to see again would have to a speech teacher named "Skogsberg," was he great or what? And then, of course, the outrageous Gilda Grace Garfinkle Glickstein. I knew her in her first year at Evans and will never forget her. Memorable drama teacher. Could take it if you were pissed at her. I'm sure she got even better as she taught longer. What an ace. Wildest thing I ever did in school? Probably trying to tame my closest friends: Sue Hoffman, Judy Young and Susan Burton. Anyone know them? They were absolutely wild...loved going to the parks (Eola, Rock Springs and the like) and get wild and loud. Nothing outrageous. (All the wildness was internal!) Well, my first true love had to be Dave Rogers. He was also involved in the theater scene at the school. 1972 or 72 "Fantastix." was awesome. Anyone remember Kurt MacKenzie? Wow, what a babe. Anyway, Dave Rogers and all the musician types formed a hang out called "Grandma's Joint." This little shack out in the Windermere (?) boonies wh...Expand for more
ere semi-pro musicians jammed every Sat. night. Connie Swatton played some. Anyone remember he or her gorgeous brother Larry? Kim Durkee? What a cute nerd. My sister, Vicki and I baked cookies and sold tea and hung out at "Grandma's" on weekends there for a coupla years. I think Dave Roger's is a building contractor, married Jennifer and still live in this big ol' house in Windermere. You know, honestly, I moved from Orlando so soon after I 'd graduated, that I'm not even sure anyone would remember me. I was pretty shy and quiet in school, so not sure. I hope people would remember me as being smart, friendly and sensitive. I think my biggest surprise in life is to be able to live so close to nature. I'm not a pro photographer, but I do take pictures and study wild animals that not many people would be interested in...critters like coyotes and rattlesnakes. If I had a chance to do one thing over I think it would be to write professionally. But then, my life's not over yet! The "weirdest Job" I've ever had has to be antiquing and painting about 300 desks for the tobacco company "American Spirit." They have their corporate office in Santa Fe, NM, and I helped accomplish that project in three months. (Sheer hell, I tell you!) I will never do production like that again, so don't ask! Since I left high school, have lived near Nevada City, Ca. in a community called "Ananda," Lake Tahoe, Ca., Scottsdale, AZ., San Antonio, TX, Ruidoso, NM, Santa Fe, NM and now Cerrillos NM mountaintop.
