Julie's Story
I attended Texas Tech University and graduated in December 1996 with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies. Got married in December 1996 to Chris Black, who I met and got engaged after only three monnths, and moved back to Arlington. On April 12, 1998 had my first baby, a girl. I had primarily worked in the Hospitality industry, like the Ballpark in Arlington and the American Airlines Center, in the catering departments from 2001-2004. In 2003 started working for Jason's Deli as a Catering Manager. In 2006 my husband starting working for Continental and we moved to Houston. In May 2007 we had our second baby, another girl, that is where we are now. I have completely left the rat race of restaurants and catering and have moved into the Human Resources department. administrative areas. Its nice not having to deal with teenagers, or at least for right now. I didn't think I would like Houston weather, but I don't have allergies down here. I did survive my first hurricane, Ike, this year. It is a humbling experience to not have electricity for 10 days and no ice, gas, internet, or grocery stores. The media is not too far off on that aspect.
Now, myself, my husband and our two girls are just trying to survive the oldest being a pre-teen and having a toddler at the same time. Since I am still impatient its gets difficult.
In December my husband and I will celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary. He truly is my best friend and we love to travel to the beach. When I say beach I mean anywhere not in the gulf. We love to go to Cabo and are trying to get to the Caribbean soon. Doing pretty well and enjoying life.
