Julie's Story
I have two sons, ages 27 (Jeremy) & 24 (Jordan). I divorced in 2004 (wanted to attend the Towers 2003 20-year reunion, but couldn't due to the pending divorce); I am now MARRIED--since 12/12/09--to a wonderful man, Glen Wade, with whom I've shared a loving relationship since 2005. Southwest Airlines was been my "career home" from 2002 to Sept. 2009 when I took the Freedom '09 voluntary early-leave package. I spent the latter part of 2009 caring for my youngest son (recovering from accident & surgeries) & planning every detail of our beautiful Christmas wedding. Never a dull moment! Prior to working for Southwest, I was a Spanish teacher for a private school, worked in school district administration, and in the Dallas fashion & wholesale gift industry (not in that order!).
This picture is a fairly recent one of me with my two sons; I'm the one in the middle!
Degrees I earned while working full time and raising my family include a BBA in management and an AAS in marketing. I've earned a career coach certification and am creating workshops for educators who are nearing retirement or a second career. My "spare" time includes attending concerts and plays, scrapbooking, sewing, doing calligraphy projects, and spending precious time with family, my dogs, and dear friends.
Having "girl time" with my close friends is not only a priority, it is something that is truly a "balm" for my soul. Each year is more precious regarding the time spent & memories created with people I love. I still keep contact with several friends from Georgia, a few of whom have reconnected with me, thanks to Classmates! It was a treat to see Jason Yount in 2007 when he visited Dallas (anyone reading this who attended Rowland will remember Jason and how much fun he was---he still is!) n my life.
Taking a cue from the story ideas suggested here on this web site, I think the thing that might surprise my childhood friends about me the most is that my faith in God is incredibly strong. I visited many churches with friends as a kid and teen but was not raised in a church family. I vowed to raise my kids in church and I can't express how much it has meant to me to have had such a wonderful church family throughout my adulthood. I've had fantastic role models from the incredible ladies of my church, my sons have had many "extra" moms, dads, grandparents, and siblings from our church family, and I've learned about the Bible and what it means to have a faith right along with my kids.
Another blessing is that I still have my folks, alive, well, and living close by, along with two wonderful stepparents. I can't imagine my life without the four of them! Any of my fellow Towers alumni may recall that my mom, Marci Jordan, was a Spanish teacher & cheerleader sponsor at THS from 1976-79.
I am thankful for all of the friends I had during my one and only year as a Towers Titan as well as during the previous years when I attended Rowland. I also cherish the memory of being on the drill team as a Marchette. Never thought I'd say that about sweaty hours spent practicing in the red clay dirt! My years in Stone Mountain & Carrollwood Estates were, by far, the best of my childhood, and I'm always pleased when people talk with me and recognize the "Georgia" accent! I was blessed to return to Atlanta in Sept. 2009 & enjoyed seeing friends & the old neighborhood. Facebook has been my main place of choice for reconnections with many friends on there. It's time for a Rowland/ Towers reunion...hey, life is short! Let's do it soon so I can come back to Atlanta when it's not the 100-year rainstorm!
