June's Story
Life
My Spouse
Gary is my High School sweetheart. We met when I was a Freshman in High School and dated for 3 years. He lived down the street from me. We have 3 children, 13 grandchildren (4 adopted) and 7 great grandchildren.
My Pets
I raise and show prize winning Siamese cats and have a Pit Bull that I rescued. We live across the street from Jurupa Valley High School and someone dumped him out in front of the school. We took him in because he was very friendly and I was afraid the school would call animal control. Since he is a Pit Bull we figured they would put him down or else he would be hard to adopt out. He was very good with our 14 year old White Shepard (we have since had to put her to sleep) so we ended up keeping him when no one claimed him.
I bred a Siamese cat that went 17th Best International Kitten a couple of years ago and is now a Lifetime Achievement Award winner Supreme Grand Champion Velpaws David Copycat of McInKats. This year (2016) I showed a very pretty Chocolate point female (I purchased from a friend). She ended up Highest Scoring Siamese Kitten in the world AKA, Best of Breed International Siamese Kitten. She also was Best...Expand for more
International Chocolate Point Cat of the Year, 7th Best SW Kitten and 14th SW Best Cat.
I write poetry and have been published in the "Who's Who " top 200 poets of the "Poetry Society" (2005, 2006 & 2007). Haven't written much lately. Except Christmas cards, birthday cards and a graduation poem for my granddaughter and a family friend's daughter.
My husband and I will be celebrating our 52nd Wedding Anniversary in June.
I'm not afraid of getting old
by June Abbott Colwell
I'm not afraid of getting old
It's just a feeling in my soul
That bothers me from head to toe
I'm not afraid of getting old
Why must I suffer aches and pains
In both my body and my brain
I'm not afraid of getting old
It's just a feeling in my soul
That bothers me from head to toe
I'm not afraid of getting old
Why must I make the trade
Of knowledge for a head of gray
I'm not afraid of getting old
It's just a feeling in my soul
That bothers me from head to toe
I'm not afraid of getting old
And when I reach my end of life
And all around me turns to strife
I'll be so glad that I am old
That, "That old feeling in my soul"
Won't bother me anymore
Because I'm not afraid of getting old
