Junior's Story

Well, here I am, after 15 years in the Army, making a huge career move. Soon to be retired from the Army, not by choice, I will be moving back to Hampton, Va and trying to start again. Everything changes constantly, I guess the best we can do is roll with it and continue forward. I have been through alot since High School, 5 Deployments with the Army, 3 Combat Tours, a Purple Heart and 2 Army Commendation Medal w/ Valor, just to mention some. So, after all that, I am still scared to death. This is a life changing event and I thought I had 5 more years to think about it.......WRONG!!!!! I have about 90 days to get my s*** together......No matter what, however, I will continue forward, leaning on faith and striving for what I believe in....After all, what else can we do in life? Ha, I have been reading these "story ideas" they post on this site and I actually laughed. I am, however, going to answer each question one by one, just for fun...... 1. What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? Dunno, I was deployed during every one of them and didn't get to go...probably that I am still alive!! 2. What teacher would you love to see again? Why? I have no idea, this far out, high school was pretty much a blur, I love those movies that say high school are the best days of your life, I remember the best days of my life and none of them are high school days...to answer the question though, I would say Gary Beverage....just to take him drinking, I bet he would be a trip. 3. What's the wildest thing you ever did in school? Besides getting stoned?? IN school, sex probably! 4. What happened to your first crush? I have not a clue, I have not been around or kept in touch with anyone really....sadly, there are a couple of people I wish I had kept up with, but maybe being closer now and not gone all the time I can fix that. TBH, I dunno who my first crush actually was. 5. How do you hope old friends remember you? Honestly, I don't, like I said, there are only a few that I hung out with and they will remember me how they remember me, nothing I can do to change it so why sweat it. 6. To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? Well, I have some ideas about this one, but I think I will leave it a mystery, I am pretty easy going so the place is not important, the what, living life, being outdoors raising a family....and whatever else c...Expand for more
omes to mind at the time. with whom?? Well, I had a huge crush in High School, I mean huge, but I think it may have been a little more than a crush, at least on my behalf, because I still have those old feeling/thoughts from time to time....for all those of you thinking, now, who did he date in High School, trying to figure it out, I never did date this person, so you can stop....She was always hung all over some A** and I was just too stupid/shy to say anything, and that I will leave at that! 7. Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What's been your biggest surprise? Being almost killed at 38, yes, 2 years ago. Roadside bomb in Iraq, 2 combat tours and all my guys came home without a scratch, 2 weeks into my third tour and I get blown up, lose a very dear friend, great person and awesome Soldier, and have 2 more critically wounded....Army surgeons are the best btw, at least at trauma injuries. 8. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? Well, because I am answering this, I get 3 do overs..... 1. Be a better husband to my first wife. Not saying it would have worked, Infantry and family life really don't mix well, but I would have tried harder, not only for her and for myself, but for my 2 beautiful kids..... 2. I am not sure exactly what I could have done, but SOMETHING different to save Prince Teewia's life on 29 Dec 2005....Like I said, I don't know what I could have done, but there has to be something to avoid that attack. 3. Refer to question #6......I would say what probably should or could have been said all those years ago. 9. What's the weirdest job you ever had? I have only had a couple and none of them really weird, I love the Infantry, wish I could stick it out another 5 years, but even if they were to let me stay in, they wouldn't let me stay Infantry, so I am done. 10. Where have you lived? Why did you move? Oh hell, this one could take hours to type...Italy, Alaska, Alabama, Tenessee, Colorado and Wyoming are the places I have "resided" since high school, but there are many more in which I spent 6 to 18 months, Egypt, Kosovo, Bosnia, Germany, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan to mention a few...but I wouldn't call what we did there living, I would call it surviving. That is me in a nutshell I guess. I hope it didn't bore you too much, I just thought it would be fun and I needed a break from getting my house ready to sell.
