Justin's Story

Went straight to college after St. Agnes and graduated from St. John's University in '64. Got drafted in '65 and spent 2 years in the MPs. Received a direct commission after 22 months and was ultimately discharged in '71 as a 1LT - no ROTC; no PLC's; no OCS. Is this a great country or what? Picked up an MBA in '72. Spent +/-10 years working mostly in sales for big companies - American Airlines, IBM, Herman Miller - and then started our own company in '79. We are now the US partner for several European manufacturers in the high-end commercial furniture industry. Interesting blend of art and commerce. Part of the business concentrates on the air transportation industry and is really quite challenging. Married a native Los Angelean in '68 and moved her to Long Island. Now THAT'S culture shock! Still very happily married. Had 5 children but one died in infancy. Other four are successful and well. One is married to the Director of Operations for the NY Jets; one is a global accounts manager for a large commercial furniture company; one is married to a Navy Commander on the staff of the Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk and one is a Navy CDR who just graduated from the Navy War College is in his XO tour aboard USS Boxer (San Diego) as C5I. Have no idea how we raised a bunch of warriors; - but we did! Have been quite active in community affairs and have raised funds for Mercy Hospital, Friend's Academy, St. Paul's Episcopal School and a host of smaller charities. Currently serve as "Executive-In-Residence" for the undergraduate business school at SJU. Was professor of business policy and strategy at N...Expand for more
YIT in the mid 90's. Spent 25 years in the volunteer fire service and served a 10 year term as Commissioner. Won the National Fire Protection Association's International Fire Command Fellowship in 1992 but retired from fire fighting in 2000. It's a young man's game and I don't meet the basic criteria! Recently spent a week at the National Security Seminar of the US Army's Strategic Studies Institute in Carlisle Barracks (PA). Was one of 160 nationwide representatives from business, academia and government. Gave me a whole new respect for the dedication and professionalism of our nation's military. Have 8 grandchildren; - 6 boys and 2 girls. Our youngest son, Greg, and his wife, Mindy, had a little girl (Evelyn Mae) in February 2014. She was christened in St. Patrick's Church (Huntington) on October 19 and the reception was at our house. Photo shows Bonnie and me in our backyard with all 8. Live in Huntington on the north shore of LI. Lucked into a large (3 1/2 acres) piece of property many years ago and, over the decades, it has come to be a place of great solace. Our children had a wonderful time growing up there and now our grandchildren spend endless hours hiding in the woods or sledding on the hills. Am in the process of planting a vineyard on part of the property and will use it to occupy my hands/mind when I slow down. Not ready to retire yet. Still see many opportunities and can't seem to turn it off. Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 but caught it in time. Life's been really good and we've been very fortunate. Call if you get to NYC or LI. Home phone is 631 427 1058.
