Kaley's Story
Life
I always said I'd never marry a farmer or live in MN. I have done both. We live in Brewster, a town of about 500 people on a good day.Dave & I work at Sanford Regional Hospital Worthington. I am a RN working in ED/CCU/ICU/PACU. I am also an EMT and firefighter on the Brewster Fire Department. I am an adrenaline junkie! It's such a rush running into a burning building or saving people's lives.
We also raise stock cows, horses, chickens, sheep, and cats. We grow corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and oats to keep our many animals fed. I have become a real farm girl. Something I never thought possible 19 years ago. I live for the spring and fall so I can drive MY red tractor in the field. I don't plant, but have been known to drive a combine or two. Being alone in a field digging up dirt is very relaxing. If I didn't carry a cell phone it would be much better!
For the rest of my story...Hope Erin turned 19 this year and will be a starting her 2nd year of college. That means we've been out of school that long too. It doesn't seem possible! She has tried my patience to the limit, tested all the boundaries, and given me nume...Expand for more
rous grey hairs. Now I know what I did to my parents! She changed her name to McNab which made a HUGE difference in her self esteem. Larissa Joy will be 13 and in seventh grade. She is the tom boy of the two. She loves taking care of her animals and the dirtier she is the better she likes it. I wasn't sure how this whole second marriage thing would go with them, but they love their step-dad like he was their only. They get along with Dave fabulously. He's as proud to call them "daughters" as they are to call him "dad". Then comes our little tagalong. Kalen David is soon to be five. I now understand why people have kids when they're young! He is the man on the go from the time he gets up until he closes those big blue eyes at bedtime. He arrived one month early, but tried to make his appearance almost 4 months before that. He hasn't slowed down since then. He loves tractors, heavy machinery, and any type of train he can find. We now step on them instead of Barbies!
Everyday at our house is an adventure. We have one driving, one hitting puberty, and another destroying everything in sight. My life isn't boring at all!!
