Kandice's Story
Well, where do I begin? I reflect back on many years of fun, disappointment, and great family and friends. I have been married and divorced. No regrets from the marriage because from that I have 2 beautiful daughters who have grown to become very wise women. Not only are they my daughters, but they are my friends and a great source of comfort. Vanessa is a dental hygienist and Melissa has her degree in secondary math. She is a 6th grade math teacher for the Central Cambria School District. I have 6 wonderful grandchildren. I did work as a paraprofessional (instructional aide) 1993 - 2012 and enjoyed what I did (most of the time....there were those moments!!!). However, someone saw that the aides were not needed any longer at Admiral Peary AVTS and eliminated our positions. I did attend IUP back in 1971 for 1 year and a summer session, but dropped out at the beginning of my 2nd year. To this day I have regrets for not completing my college education. would have made an excellent Health and Physical Education instructor. In July 2009 I experienced a life threatening illness. My 5 day vacation to Colorado turned into a 2 month stay in a Denver hospital. After becoming very ill on the trip, I was life-flighted on July 18th to a Denver hospital, St. Anthony Central, where my family was told that I was not going to make it. Well, after spending 3 weeks in a coma and another 5 weeks of recovering, I returned to PA on September 12th. I have so much for which to be thankful, especially the wonderful man in my life. Pat stayed with me for 7 of the 8 weeks, spending 13 hours a day helping my through a very difficult time with my life. I am fortunate to have pulled through with God's help, the powerful instrument of prayer, and the great team of doctors. I faced another major surgery in April 2010 and recovery period. I am doing well now and getting stronger every day. Live each day to the fullest. You never know what lies ahead.
