Karen's Story

Life On 2/12/05 I remarried an NCHS graduate from the class of 1974. His name is Mark Merbackand we met in Casper after his return to help care for his terminally ill parents. I have two children from a previous marriage. Amy 24 yrs old who recently moved to Pocatello, Idaho to finish working on her Bachelor's degree and then onto her Master Degree in Education. She lives in the country with her three loving companions "Pepper", "Dakota" and "Shelby". Oh and her fiance Josh too..He is working on his Masters Degree in Biology. Yes, they too are NCHS graduates. Adam is 20 yrs old and recently graduated from NCHS. Adam won the Art Congressional Award traveled to Washington DC for the presentation of his artwork to the Capitol to be displayed for one year. He was awarded a summer session at Minneapolis Arts and Design College that he recently attended in July. He was also awarded a full scholarship at Casper College and Savannah Arts and Design College. Adam and his video team won first place in the NCHS TV Film Festival with the video "UNGI". His video team last year won first place and the Peoples Choice Awards for the short film "Aliens from a planet Beyond Mars". He is currently attending Casper College pursuing his Associate Degree in Art and then he will pursue his education in the media world at an accredited School of Art and Design College. He has already been approached to be an intern with a media company in Hollywood and has been offered a position in Boulder, Colorado to edit film so who knows where he will be in two years. Mark's son Cliff who is 24 yrs old who has a degree in Computer Science and lives in Casper with his trusty collie campion Emmy Lou. Mark and I founded our own business in March, 2005. Our partnership business is an American Heart Association, Training Center. We teach CPR, First Aid throughout Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Utah and California. We also ensure the quality of the courses taught within our region so traveling is a major part of this business. Mark also works for a contractor in Casper. We lost his father to Lung Cancer in March 2005 and his mother lost her battle with a brain tumor in February 2006. Karen lost her father to a fatal heart attack in 1977 only 6 months after her High School graduation. Her mother is still living in the home in which she grew up. School I was horribly shy to the point nobody remembers that I graduated with them. Approximately 10 years ago a former classmate who became ...Expand for more
a coworker was very surprised to hear me say that we graduated from NCHS the same year and that we went to Dean Morgan Jr High too. In fact he marched behind me at our graduation. The expression on his face of disbelief made me realize that it was time for others to see that I had become a communicative adult with many passionate ideas I want to share with this world, I would like my classmates to remember that I did graduate with them. I would like my high school classmates to see how I have transformed into an adult with communication skills instead of not realizing I graduated with them. Those years remind me that I needed to change before others would be able to communicate with me. I was in DECA and this began to bring me out of my shyness as well as allowing me to realize that I was passionate about marketing. Deca gave me a taste of how marketing made me feel good about myself. I was constantly told it was a man's world when it came to marketing skills. Well, I am here to tell you it isn't anymore! Workplace I continued to work in retail until my father died 6 months after we graduated. I decided I should go to college. I began at Casper College with the intent to get my Bachelor's in education. I decided I wanted to steer into another world and that was cosmetology. I was a cosmetologist for 12 years and decided I was tired of standing on my feet and chit chatting all day. Meeting my first husband and having two beautiful children was a dream come true. Okay, well the children part was the better part of my dream being fulfilled. I went back to college after the divorce and began acquiring some computer skills because my children were getting better at these darn machines than their mother. I began working at the school district as a computer trouble shooter and gained a ton of knowledge. I began working at Wyoming Medical Center in 1996 in the education department. This workplace changed my life for good. As I worked there I went back to school to acquire my degree in Marketing through the University of Phoenix. I have 6 classes to go and I will have my bachelors degree. I will then start the Masters program in Marketing at University of Phoenix. I discovered many things about myself and now I am pursuing my passions and dreams. I also found some really good friends at this workplace and they introduced me to my current husband. I recently resigned my position at Wyoming Medical Center as I was ready to step up to the plate and open my own business.
