Karen's Story
MY LIFE IN A NUTSHELL: Let's see...I am over 50 yrs old (suprise!) Oh & before I get to 'the good stuff', tell me: Am I the only one who was under the false assumption that once a person is officially deemed to be A GEEZER that life somehow got easier..??? Hmm??? Anyway here's my story: My family moved me to Pittsburgh right after graduation to take care of my ailing grandparents & I stayed. Got married to the sweetest guy I met on my 1st & last 'blind date'. David & I were married for almost 30 yrs <sigh> & had no kids, then he passed away. I did re-marry several yrs later, but he now has also passed away. So, I'm a widow for the 2nd time... My parents have passed away, Dad on my b'day in 98' & mom the folowing Easter in 99'.
As for working, I'm a jack of all trades: real estate & insurance licenses, a certified Olympic bowling instructor,a former nanny,a waitress,a secretary & several more I've forgotten I'm sure.
Collecting Snoopy (very seriously)was a hobby of mine for MANY years. There are thousands of 'The Beagle' currently in storage. Cars still remain a passion of mine <thanks dad> & I did pit crew for a quite a few years for a cross country race team (I still dream of owning a 72' Chev SS 396, although 3rd gear would ...Expand for more
be a real stretch for me now,LOL).
I live, w/my 7 yr old Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie mix, Kirby & Courage, 2-yr old 135 Lb dog (probably from the moose family).
We live approx 15 miles from 'The Burg' & are avid Steeler & Penguins fans (I don't do baseball).
My Jersey accent still remains at times,or so I'm told. Especially when I get stressed or very excited.
When I think of things I miss most from those days...I miss the ocean most of all I think <sigh>. But ya know, I am so grateful & thankful that I grew up where I did, when I did-- Thinking back I realize those were the innocent times (not that WE were, hahaha) life was so much easier back then. I guess we grew up somewhere between 'Happy Days' & 'The Wonder Years', huh?
Best of health & peaceful thoughts to those I knew back then. The memories we share(d) still remain fresh in my mind (at least for the time being) & in my heart. Take care each & every one of you.
Luv, Karen (a/k/a/ "K.A.")
The 2 people from my past who I'd most like to see again is Betsy Braddock-Paisley(my blood sister)& John Sammons, our old newspaper-boy & my 1st 'car-date', because they were & still are my friends who remind me of more innocent times (altho we weren't).
