Karen's Story

Life Since I was a NOBODY in high school, and my home life was so screwy, I found a true friend around age 16 - Alcohol, every single day. My best friend (in case you didn't know). I drank more than anyone even knew. The "partying" carried on.... I went in the Army in 1982. Honorable discharge as Supply Sargeant (E-5). Signed up for only two years, but when they offered a 36-month extension to go to Hawaii (after twisting my arm) I decided to stay in for another 3 years. After I got out of the service, my drinking accelerated and I finally crashed and had enough....life had become totally unmanageable, so at age 25 I got sober. I just celebrated 22 years of sobriety and just this year found a church that I call home. I thank GOD f...Expand for more
or my recovery and I thank my recovery for God. I have been working in the office ever since retired from the service. I am currently employed in a government position and make decent money. I thank GOD every day for my job. I'm one of the few still employed in Michigan. After the service, went to the Academy of Court Reporting for 4 years & didn't graduate - had a baby instead. Stayed with the baby's daddy until she was 9 months old. Now my beautiful, intelligent "baby" is going into her second year of college. She encouraged me to go back to school. Now I'm going to college for IT. Yes, I'm going to be an "IT". (LOL). I live with 2 cats that need food and attention all the time, but they're really cool. Thanks for reading.
