Karen's Story
I joined the Army right out of high school. I have been a helicopter mechanic, a technical inspector on helicopters, a drill sergeant, a platoon sergeant, and now a first sergeant. I have been to Korea, Ft. Drum New York, Haiti, Bosnia, Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri, Sheppard Air Force Base Texas, Ft. Carson Colorado, Iraq, Ft. Riley Kansas, and Iraq again. My favorite place was Colorado - hands down. That is where I will retire when I am done with my 20 years in the Army.

I was in high school, I was very shy except with my friends. It would probably be surprising for everyone to learn that I ended up being a drill sergeant for 3 years; yelling on a daily basis, in charge of training tomorrow's leaders. The Army was the best thing that ever happened to me as a person; I wouldn't go back and change anything about the last 16 years.
The Army has been a huge part of my life, and I'm proud to serve my country, even if I am in this hellhole Iraq!
