Karen's Story
Right after leaving school I ran a bit crazy for a bit, then took up an offer to enter a program at WSU for people in their Senior Year that were interested in joining the Army, I stayed in the dorms there and finished the program.I received my High School Diploma at Washington State University in Pullman Washington, decided not to enlist and worked as a Vault Teller in Roseburg Ore. while living with and spending over-due time with my Dad for several months, also worked for him in his business on the side. Moved to Seattle WA. In the Spring of 79.
While working as a Shoe buyer/ Sales Associate for Fanfare shoes, a waitress, and Hostess,I met and married my first husband in 1980, we both loved the Arts and the beach...He was a steel fabricator and welder (Now sells his Metal Art in Galleries in the Port Townsend and surrounding areas)In 1981 we had a son, Mark Jr. and 13 months later a daughter, Lindsay Nicole... Unfortunately I became a single parent with two small children to raise, difficult with no College Degree...to say the least. Desperately searching for truth I was baptized into Christ in 1984, became a Christian and put myself through College with two little ones. After finishing all the pre-reqs I needed to enter a Nursing Program in Grays Harbor- there was a 2 year waiting period to get into any Core Program, anywhere, so I sat outside the classroom door to an LPN program every morning begging them to let me challenge the tests the class had already taken that had started a month earlier..they finally let me in :-) My whole life changed during that 18 months- I had finally found the right road and success was there for the taking/or working I should say.. I graduated as an SPN, passed State Boards, got a job that I loved as an LPN and continued with my education while raising my children..I've worked in the ER, Hospice, Infants on ventilators, specialized in Urology, became a Urodynamic Specialist, started and ran the Urodynamic Program at Group Health Coop(for 10 years), OB-GYN and now I'm in "Pain Management" where I hope to retire. Still learning to this day. There were many difficult years as my children grew up, but I made it through.I taugh...Expand for more
t myself to paint (never had time to take one Art class) but never stopped painting. I love Ancient History and have studied Ancient cultures, different religions, and Archeology as a hobby. Coming from a Jewish family background (My Mother's side), I became interested in and added to my studies, Biblical Hebrew which I took by satellite out of the University of Jerusalem, I have taught and am still teaching Biblical Hebrew and Christian studies through a Hebraic perception to the Teen's and women in my congregation on my days off. I just started a Women's "New-Comers" class of 7 also. I have traveled to many Archaeological sites in Central America and am planning to visit Peru, Jordan and Israel in the future.
There were many dark years, poor choices, and wrong turns early on in my life, but they have all led me back to the place of surrender, conviction and change, where good works, a soft heart, loving kindness, total forgiveness, and faithfulness will be remembered for eternity. I met my current Husband 9 years ago, He is from Denmark, an Engineer, and my very best friend. An intellectual challenge, a lover of Family, with equal values and hard worker like myself. He brought two daughters of his own into my life, daughter Terra just came back from starting College at the University of Hawaii (home-sick) now pursuing a career in Radiology/Ultrasound. Daughter Shawna finishing her Senior year. My life keeps getting better and better as wisdom grows and is practiced. Being a Daughter of the Most High, Mother, Wife, Sister, and Grandmother have been where the depths of my heart have experienced true JOY- and where my greatest treasures are held. I thank you, all my friends along the way, even the ones I lost, left, or fought with- High School years can be the most painful for those of us with unresolved conflict in our homes and a sensitive heart that searches for love to give and receive without ever really knowing what it is...I am so thankful I have learned what it is, and experienced it's joy. You can check out my Albums I've been working on- and send a note, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for reading- Hope you all have a blessed Holiday season! 2008
