Scott's Story

What can I say about thirty years of being away from Battle Creek Michigan? Sometimes I think ¿Thank God¿ after going back to visit my family and friends. Other times I thing so much has changed. The day I left high school enlisted in the US Air Force. I hung out in Battle Creek for about three months on my delay enlistment then headed for Lackland Air Force Base. I was shipped to RAF Wethersfield, England in the 80¿s for 4 years. During this time I was traveling all over Germany, Egypt, Spain, Greece, France, and Italy as a pavements and heavy equipment technician. I married my first wife whom I had two beautiful daughters (Lisa & Amanda). My next assignment was Bergstrom AFB in Texas for 4 years where I traveled all over the states specializing in Rapid Runway Repair (RRR). I headed back to England to RAF Wethersfield, England (again) and continued running around Europe to include Turkey, Scotland, Luxemburg, and Denmark building anything from roads, buildings, and runways. I was one of the last people to closed that base down in 1990 and did my last 1.5 years in England at RAF Bentwaters. My last 7 years in the military before I retired (20 years) was at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio. It was then I got busy with my college degree in Architecture and designed/built commercial buildings. I decided to become a commercial construction project manager, project superintendent who is completely responsible for the budg...Expand for more
ets and construction of the facilities. Projects I¿ve been responsible for ranged from 1000 dollars to 38 million dollars. I cannot remember a time I did not dream of building buildings, from the day my father bought my first Lago set to now. It has always fascinated me how everything goes together. I laugh because my story started with the construction of the learning center at Battle Creek Central in the early 70¿s. I remember getting chased out by security constantly at the learning center job site because I was curious¿¿..today I chase the pesky little kids out of my job sites. LOL Recently I finally met the wife I¿ve been looking for. She is beautiful and went to high school at Madison in Middletown, Ohio. We married on top of a mountain in Beautiful Glenwood Springs Colorado where we lived for over a year. She is everything I¿ve ever wanted. In high school she was beautiful (still is) cheerleader, homecoming queen, and now is a doctor in Education whom I am very proud to be married too. She has two beautiful daughters (Samantha & Kayla) just within two years of my daughter¿s age, which makes me one man in a family of women. I don¿t mind at all. My life has been filled with ups & downs like everyone else have but Karen and I are very happy to be together and look forward to our future together and our children¿s futures. PS: I am a Grand Pa two times over from my oldest daughter Lisa. How times change.
