Karen's Story
Life: Married my husband, Andrew in 1989. We have two children, Josh, 21 (college student) and Justin, 17 (11th grade- basketball and tenor sax player). I love visiting Ojai, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, travelling to Europe. In the summer of 2016 I sang with a jazz band as they toured Europe. The highlight was performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The experience was surreal, amazing, and an absolute dream come true for me. (Bucket list: check : )
School: At Nordhoff, the music and drama departments inspired me and kept me going.
College: Graduated from CSUN with a Bachelor of Music degree. Later, I...Expand for more
went back to CSUN to earn a K-12 music teaching credential. In 2004, I graduated from USC with my Masters in Music Education.
Workplace: My craziest jobs were as a singing waitress and reunion photographer! Since those days, I've been a music teacher in elementary school, middle school, and at the university level, as well as teaching private voice lessons. I also spent 14 years as a classroom editor and author for a music publisher. Currently, I teach music education at CSUN (a wonderful, full-circle journey for me), preparing elementary classroom and music teachers for their careers - and I love what I do.
