Karen's Story
Life
What can I say - life is work. Go to work, come home and work on family and home, go back to work. My life is rather humdrum but I love it. My job is crazy busy, some days I like it, others I hate it. My kids are my life, even when they are driving me crazy. I just bought a house with my fiance, and it is great but a lot of work too. Its all work, but I love it!
Military
I joined the Navy straight out of high school. I just wanted the opportunity to see the world and make a living doing it. Unfortunately, I never got any further away then San Diego. Of course, this is much further then I'd have likely gone had I not joined the Navy, so there are no regrets there. During my 5 year stint in the Navy I was a helicopter mechanic (worked on SH60Bs). I loved being able to work outdoors and with my hands, so going from this to a desk job was a hard move not only mentally, but physically. I gained a ton of ...Expand for more
weight from sitting on my rear all day, plus I have less time now then I did at that time to workout. While I was in the Navy I met and married my first husband and had two beautiful daughters (10 and 14 years old now - talk about making you feel old!). We transfered back to Virginia 10 years ago. We have been divorced for 9 years now. I moved back to PA for a year or so after the divorce, but returned to VA so my kids could be near their dad and friends they had met while living here. I also moved back because everyone and everything (other than my family) I knew was here. Not that family doesn't matter to me either, but I had not lived in PA since I left after graduation in 1988, so home just wasn't home anymore. I don't know if that makes any sense. I still come back to PA 4 or 5 times a year to see my family and they come down this way 1 or 2 times a year to vacation in the Outer Banks, so I see them then.
