Karen Fillebrown:

CLASS OF 1969
South portland, ME

Karen's Story

I left SPHS and went to work at Fairchild SemiConductor and from there went and worked at MMC for 20yrs. First working in the lab, then working as an Unit Clerk and a Monitor Tech. After 20 years there I decided it was time to move on so moved to the lovely town of Waterford, ME to be near my family. I worked at Stephens Memorial Hospital for 10 years before having to have a (R) total knee replacement and then all hell broke loose. I ended up with a lot of surgeries and thus didn't get the therapy I needed on my knee thus I started working on getting another education thru Voch Rehab. I went to Mid State College and with 6 classes left, they closed their doors, so I got myself enrolled at Husson College in S.P....Expand for more
and finished and got an associated degree in Computer Science as a programmer, however, I wouldn't hire me. Tried to get some help with more learning nad that didn't work out so I took some Adult Ed courses and now have a PSS and CRMA certificate, which I hope to use as soon as a wound heals. I had a hernia operation in Aug, and three weeks later ended up with a bad staph infection and more surgery and ended up with tunnels, which are so slow in healing. (I was left open so that I could heal from the inside out. Well, it's getting smaller and hope within the next month or two that I will heal and be able to go swimming. Enough for now.....I'm a fighter, and I'll get through this as I have every bump in my life.
