Karen's Story
Life
I moved to PA in 1988, and was married to my husband, Darryl in 1991. I was employed by the US Post Office for over 13 years. We built a 2 story house on 3 acres in 1994, and finally (after much struggle & heartache), had a beautiful daughter Amanda Nicole, in January of 1999. I call her my miracle baby, because the same week that we moved into our new house I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Unfortunately it has taken its toll on me the
past few years. I had to retire on disability from my job, and refrain from doing alot of things I used to enjoy. The hardest thing being unable to physically raise my own daughter, who now lives with my parents, which thankfully is only about 17 miles away. But I keep my chin up and be happy with what I do still have. My family.

o just keep on taking. I went from using a walker when Amanda went to live with her grandparents (who it's hard to believe, are now 76 & 79!), to using a wheelchair full time. I am basically now a quadrapalegic, unable to do anything for myself. I have caregivers who feed, bathe, & dress me etc. I even had (past tense) a caregiver, who convinced my husband (soon to be ex) that I was just a burden who only wanted him around for his monetary support, so they moved out together. So now he supports both of us, me 'cause I'm disabled & he's being forced to legally, & her 'cause she likes to drink & doesn't like to work. Oh well his loss.
Christmas is almost here & Amanda is really looking forward to it. She'll be 8 next month, & I'm thrilled that she still believes in Santa. "Sigh" they grow up so fast.
