Karen's Story
12/2016 - Thought I would update - have now been in my home in Orange 42 years. Am sure I will be here for the long haul. Sold the family home at Lake Tahoe this summer. Very hard emotionally, my roots are there as are both of the girls, but the right thing to do both financially and for the property. First year of retirement has been very busy and yet to get into some kind of "pattern". Not sure that is a bad thing - except for exercise. Need to get that on some kind of a regular schedule. Mama just celebrated her 99th birthday on 11/26. Still lives on her own and manages her own affairs.
FNA - "Candy" Hyatt - After High School I went to college in Missouri for 2 years - which was more than enough for a CA girl. Finished at Cal State Fullerton. Married in 1965 - 2 children - moved to Orange County in 1968 - still there - in the same house for 33 years. I also went to Law School. r Foster Children)in Orange county. I have a 12 year old grandson - soon to be a teenager - with whom I spend a lot of time including playing golf with his school golf team on Fridays. I still spend summers at our family home at Lake Tahoe - friends who have spent time with me there say that is where my "true soul" comes out. Would love to retire there - . Just recently quit working, not by choice, so am evaluating the benefits of retirement and whether or not I can afford it - as long as the cats will share I should be O.K.
Nov 2015 Update - you can tell how long ago I wrote that "story". My Grandson is almost 20 and in College at UofO - loves Oregon! Went back to work in 2009 - only off 4 months. Retiring Dec 25, 2015!! I am ready. My youngest daughter finished her Phd last Spring. Oldest daughter has been struggling with a chronic illness, but you would not know to see her. Both are spectacular women! Mama is still with us - she will be 98 on Thanksgiving Day. Still living on her own. I am still in the same house in Orange - no reason to move!
