Karen's Story
As of 2012, I have been married 33 years to my husband Fred. We have lived in the same house for 32 of those years. I have one daughter and one step-daughter. I am currantly unemployed - not exactly retired, but not working either. I am the curator of the 1711 Solomon Goffe House, a living history museum on North Colony Street in Meriden, a volunteer job which I love.
We have been raising our two oldest grandchildren for the past 13 years. Jayden is 16 and she is an honor roll student at Maloney. Joshua is 21 and he was in the Marching Band and graduated from Maloney in 2009. Last summer, after one year of college and one year of working, he "ran away from home and joined the circus." hen the circus was in town Josh went and talked to the owners. The next day he got a call and two days later he joined them in Trumbull, and has been with them ever since. I am proud to say my grandson is a clown with the Cole Bros. Circus. They travel up and down the east coast, and he made his hometown debut this past week.
We have two more grandchildren, Jazmine, 11, who will start middle school this fall, and Jacob, 8, who is still at Nathan Hale. Jaz gets good grades and is an avid reader, like her older sister, while Jake seems to be trying to be the class clown... Since their single mother works days and takes college courses several nights a week, I babysit for the two younger ones a lot.
