Karen's Story
Well, I've lived a full life till this point. I've traveled around the world when I was 25. Then decided after trying the Media world and made nothing, decided to try my family business. When I was 28, I moved down to Florida to learn the nursing home business. I loved it and the feeling of taking care of the elderly appealed to my nurturing nature. We have a psychiatric hospital that was attached to the nursing home, so eventually I took over running both businesses till this day. I have been married twice. My first doesn't even count. Long story, not worth telling. I met my current husband when I was 40. He's an Israeli and very handsome and smart. He's working with me in the business so we're together 24/7. We adopted a son who is now 12. We have a strong, loving yet challenging relationship where we are partners for life. We have Poodles and a cat. At one time I had 2 standards and 4 cats! d my life really changed. We have 2 other nursing homes in Connecticut, which became my responsility to oversee. And my mom changed drastically. She lost her other half and I lost the mother I remembered. But she's strong and healthy and alive. She fell recently and fractured her pelvis and sacrum and at 86, it's tough despite all my experience with the elderly. She's doing well and is now home with help. Her mind is in tact and she's got a good, strong heart. I don't have many friends. It's difficult finding the time, being a businesswoman, mother of a young child, who by the way has ADHD, and a wife of an Israeli. But I'm happy and settled and stable. I had done it all, as they say, when I was young. I Learned alot to get to where I am today. I remember myself as a shy, nice person but one who didn't have much self-confidence. I think I've grown up into who I am by truly accepting those around me and myself. The rest of my story is yet to come.
