Karen van's Story
Life
My former name was Karen Kay Hassall. I left Monte Vista in 1973 to go work in Guatemala, Central America on a charter boat. I was trained as a chef, became a caterer and met my husband on a movie set in 1976. I went to college before I was scheduled to graduate Monte Vista High School, maintained a 3.9 GPA for over 10 years and now have many degrees and certificates. I have been in the mortgage business for the past 14 years while raising 5 children by myself since my husband died in 1991...Expand for more

Needless to say, the mortgage office closed and I hang out at the Sausalito Cruising Club (sailing, music, food and drink) on the weekends. Come by as my guest anytime. My home is a small farm in Sonoma where I have a big dog and I grow enough food for a small town. My son Caleb Mitchell is a successful Real Estate / Mortgage sales person in the Blackhawk area, so some of you may run into him . . .the other 4 are still here in the SF Bay Area.
