Karen's Story
Life
Been through a lot since High School. High School years were the best years of my life. Started College after High School and kept quiting and restarting over and over. Went to work at Lockheed for 15 years and the big layoff of 1993 hit our home hard. My husband worked there for 35 years and we both got laid off. Went to school full time to become and MA. Wasn't my cup of tea. Continued on my job quest until finally I am working in the Real Estate field. I have done just about everything. We go to Mexico at least once a year with my parents and if we go the second time it is thanks to my parents. I Travel with family to reunions all over the country and with my husband back east to see his son. I graduated college and a year later my daughter graduated college and is working full time. I am waiting for the big lotto win so that I can retire..wait, I think I should maybe be playing???!!. Life is Good. Up and down, but the prayers work. We moved to Rocklin to be close to all of my sisters and my parents. My parents live in Auburn and my dad is ill. Two of my sisters live in Auburn also and one of my sisters lives in Roseville. The youngest sister lives in Alaska for about 22 years now. ...Expand for more
We all try to stay as close to my parents as possible. They have been very good to us. Now it is their turn for us to try to be good to them.
School
Attended West Valley, Mission, De Anza, and Sierra College in Rocklin. Completed Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy certified and an AA in Sociology. It was a long haul. Finally finished 27 years later. Just remember, it is never to late to learn. You aren't going to get any younger even if you don't go to school.
College
Attended West Valley, Mission, De Anza and Sierra Colleges. Finally got my AA in Sociology at West Valley College. It was a long haul and I did it for my daughter. She said "Mom, you don't know what it's like to work and go to college". I said "what classes shall WE take". We had fun in college together and it brought us very close. She has since graduated and moved on.
Workplace
Worked straight out of High School. Did ok. Got a Job at Lockheed and worked my way up. After the lay off, we worked for a while and decided to move closer to my family. Started working as an assistant and ended up my own boss. Life is good. The sad thing is that my dad told me 20 years ago to get into real estate. I should have listened.
