Karen's Story
Life
ive always been an artist & have
engaged in a variety of traditional & avant garde artistic activities-i was a flower child in the sixties and lived in the haight ashbury from 1965 - 1970 then traveled around the country
for a while with my back pack & my husband steve magenheimer.after that we moved back to the bay area and have been here ever since living mostly in berkeley where we are "normal"(steven and i divorced a few years ago but remain good freinds - weve now known each other for 44 years.
im enjoying my single life but am also interested in remarrying though i dont feel frantic about it.
i recently earned a degree in multimedia and am working on the next level- my third degree -ha ha-
life remains fascinating and im glad i never get bored.i keep learning new things and my family is precious to me.
i am amazed that the class of 65 is almost 60 and this site is fascinating to me perhaps just bacause of the realisation that so much time has passed. i remember almost nothing of high school(too traumatic )so i find every ones comments very interesting!
my mother has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer in both lungs - the legacy of 65 years of smoking tobacco.she is 77 and i am 57 -i can remember playing at tea parties and art projects with her when i was little and now we sit together and drink tea having weathered many battles before we both became adults who love each other.
happy new year - it doesnt seem much different from the old year- scary beautiful and limited w...Expand for more

while she is dying - i havent lived in the concord area since 1965 -i really hate concord in the summer...

4-24-06 i havent been here in a while-im still in concord feeling broken hearted- my mother died in my arms june 27 2005 - after taking care of her and always thinking of ways to help her and make her life better i find that i have a lot of free time that i dont know what to do with -
speaking of time - the class of 65 is turning 60 next year - i think it would be interesting to have a "we are 60 " reunion -any one interested ? i just turned 59 april tenth
and find it to be amazing to have lived this long .... well 'bon voage' for now.
11-29-06: id be interested in email from people who have lost people they were close to describing how they coped!im still living in concord
its a shock after living in berkeley most of my life... rents are deftinately
lower here but im used to a very citified life near museums libraries buses berkeley bowl etc. i miss the community feeling of berkeley but
not the high rents.
