Karen's Story

Through much perseverance, I began my teaching career at Fairmount School, continuing on to Stonehenge, Westhill, and finally landing permanently at Onondaga Central. I taught mainly 2nd and 4th grade. During my 30 yeatenure, I mentored many student teachers from SU, Cortland, and LeMoyne. Because of that, I was able to earn a free MS degree from SU. d. I managed uniforms, chaperoned trips, and worked at the Carrier Dome selling hotdogs. It was there I met lifelong friends and my husband. We've been married 25 years and enjoy traveling and spending time with our daughters. We have 3 grandchildren and 3 granddogs. 10 years ago we built a new house (one floor planning for the future!) I retired from Onondaga in 2012, but wasn't ready to leave education. So I became an adjunct professor at LeMoyne and supervise student teachers every fall. I also substitute teach and serve on a testing team at Onondaga 3 times a year. Of course, all the work has to fit around our travel schedules!
