Karen's Story

I live in Melbourne, Florida and have been here for 27 years. I married pretty much out of High School and still married to the same man for 41 years. Most of my siblings live in Florida and we are close in distance and emotionally. We all gather for most holidays, and even the two siblings left in NY come down for two of the holidays every year. I did attend college for a few years and received my associate degree. I started for teaching and then stopped. I did very well in college. But for persnnal reasons stopped after my associate degree. I am a crafter and enjoy concerts and gathering with friends at home or to travel with. I have been all over the world with my husband. I enjoy traveling alot, I enjoy learning about other cultures, and appreciate ours even more when I return. I have been blessed with one son and now have a grandaughter. Just love her to bits! WE take our grandaughter with us whenever possible when we travel but only within this country right now. My husband is also from Long Island ( further out on the island )and graduated from Drexel University as an electrical engineer. He's been very successful at his job, but only actually used his degree for the first few years before going into computer sales and then moving up the corporate ladder of GE. He's a very good man, the last of the gentlemen out there today, and I always say "born old!" Very mature and always has been for his age. I love him more then anyone could possibly ever know. Although neither of us are spring chickens anymore we do keep ourselves active and in shape. We were blessed to h...Expand for more
ave the charmed life that we have. There is no desire for me to see Long Island anymore. However, we do return to NYC each year for shows. I take my grandaughter and she's become accustomed to going and picking out the shows she chooses to see on each visit. She's an intellect and understands so much for age of 8. She has a ninth grade reading level. She is so beautiful and has special gifts, I always tell her her gifts are God given. We were very blessed when she came into our lives. Can you tell I adore her? Without question there isn't anything I would not do for her or for that matter my son or daughter-in-law. My son is a graduate of Duke University. He's a Oncologist, and my daughter-in-law his wife is a RN. We see them often because we make a point of it. Actually we are thinking of relocating to NC near them. They are seriously encouraging us to move closer to them. However, when I think of my own siblings and leaving it's difficult. Time will tell. My husband and I have been lucky enough to sustain good health and happy lives. But it's more attitude that helps in those areas, as well as exercising and trying to eat right. We are big believers in a happy and healthy attitude no matter what you do in life. It really works! That's about it. Other then my rocky start earlier in life as a teenager, and learning from my mistakes everything else fell into place when I met my husband. My ride in life has really been a wonderful adventure and lucky for me a very happy one. Oh, by the way, or skiing days are limited anymore. I am older and not as ski worthy as I once was.
