Karen's Story

Right now I working full time in a doctor's office, who specializes in spider veins and Varicose veins. Before I worked there I worked in a Veterinarians office for 5 years, then in Optometry for 2 years part time. I did persue community college after my divorce with my high school sweetheart, which I divorced 10 years ago. We had 4 children, all of them within 5 year and 4 months, wow.... I was busy. I still am busy, I have three children with me now, work full time and work out at the gym 5 nights a week. I love to interior decorate. Right now I'm trying to sell my house in Brighton, it's to much up keep. I do have knowledge in the medical area, that always interested me. I still love sports, I love golf, I pitched on a men's baseball league right after my first son was born. I am a spiritual person and very reflective. I guess I was that way in high school; I didn't go out of my way to make friends, I fell in the category of being a jock, and I didn't take a preference to any type of person, as long as they were nice and I felt honest. I had extremely st ricked parents, so I wasn't allowed to do what others could do. I was adopted when I was a baby, and I found my birth parent when I was 19, It was a life changing experience. I found out my real nationality, going through your whole life thinking your something, then finding out other when your an Adult is a shock. I found out that I'm 50% Norweigion, Portuguese, some American Indian, a little Irish and English. I have a total of 10 nieces and nephews, not including my four. I will never regret being in a structured, stricked family, it really taught me valuable lessons for motherhood today. I didn't have to many friends, although the ones I did I was close to. I guess I found it easy to community with every type of person, just because they may of been considered a dork, that didn't stop me from talking and being nice to them, it doesn't matter. They probably are doing much better today than 85% of us today, they had a passion and stuck to it. I love to be creative draw, paint, interior decorating and coming up with ideas. My house was spotless until my children became teenagers...... then I had to get then attitude, someday when they are out on their own my house will be that way again, however it's impossible to keep on top of it and working full time, plus going to the gym. So I have a different way of thinking or I'll go nuts. I had so much time to paint and keep fixing up the house, however with working full time, working out, grocery shopping, running around with my kids, being there for my kids, cooking, cleaning, and everything that there is to manage finances and a house, it's almost impossible right now. I was made fun of all through my grade and Junior high school years, then when I got in high school...Expand for more
, I must of changed because, then I was being noticed by the opposite sex, I remember my first time I when out was for Homecoming, I ever remember his name "Ron Ammutussi" (spelling). Then my high school sweet heart basically scared everyone else away, with his friends: Dave Hewgly, Rick Robinson, Jim Cunningham and etc. they would stand in the hall and just look intimidating, or star down girls. Well I know I should of stayed active in sports in high school, I was in basketball, Varsity Volleyball in tenth grade, however quit and Ms. Kather (spelling) wanted me to go out for track, however I felt it would take up to much time for my high school sweetheart, Wayne Robert, to this day I regret not staying in especially Varsity Volleyball. I also wanted to be on the swimming team. Today I encourage my kids to stay in sports, it's the best challenging, structured, committed and also keeps you out of going down the wrong path. Today I can't say I love my job, I make the best of it, I find it very repetitive, and I don't do well with doing the same things over and over. I found out when all three boys of mine were diagnosis with ADHD that I am as well, now I know why I wasn't as academically up there with the honor role students, even though I studied just like them, well if I could sit still long enough. It's really to bad they didn't know what they do now about learning disabilities. When I attended college, after being diagnosed and medicated, I was going to go in to Radiology, my GPA was a 3.8, I couldn't believe it. From barely graduating, to a a 3.8 was a real accomplishment. It Choir, Art and Gym that helped my out to graduate. Now it's much different in school. I didn't finish out my passion for Radiology, just being divorced and taking care of four kids, plus working part time at a Optometry office was just to much for me, then I threw in a 1 week Real Estate Course, needless to say I had to prioritize my life. I would encourage any student to go to college, I really with I could of. However right after high school I started working full time, in an office as data entry, then two years after that I got into Secretarial, then moved on to an Engineering firm on Schoolcraft road and work in the computer department numbering everything that when into the Ford and Chrysler conveyor systems, I was the only women in the engineering building. From their I went into Interior design for office system for Silver's, located downtown Detroit, with a office in Ann Arbor. Then worked at another interior office system company called Carson's Business Interiors, located on Northwestern, doing mostly secretarial. So I guess you can say I stuck with secretarial for years, until I was expecting my first child at 25 years old. So now you just got my life story from graduating till now.
