Karen's Story
Life
After graduation I worked in the restaurant industry for 25 years. My last position was as a district manager for Taco Bell in western Michigan. I returned to college full time in 1999 and graduated with highest honors in December 2002. I was very active on campus, a member of ODK, President of the Accounting Association, Secretary of Finance Association. I recieved the Torchbearer Award my senior year (goes to 10 seniors each year in recognition of leadership on campus). During my junior year at age 45 I gave birth to twin girls. l first-time mom as well. I have a dual major in Accountancy/Finance. I sat for the CPA exam in May and passed all four parts the first time. I am currently pursuing my MBA and going through the interviewing process with the IRS. As a graduate student I am also working as a teaching assistant on campus. I am married to a professor. We live in a contemporary home we designed together after we were engaged. It took us over a year to build but we finally moved in October of 1998, the week after we were married. My mother retired and moved in with us during my pregancy to help me take care of the twins.
