Karen's Story
Life
Went to Appalachian State for 1 year;lived on Hilton Head Island for a while after that. Joined Air Force in Sep, 1976. Stationed in England, South Dakota, and Belleville, IL. Left Active Duty in 1987 with 1 son, Dustin Smith, (B-1980) and remarried; moved to Atlanta, GA. Had a daughter, Alayna, in 1988.
Moved to Tampa, Fl in 1991. Was a stay-at-home mom/reservist for 7 years there. Worked out a lot and watched birds/wildlife. Assigned to Dobbins & Robins AFB's at that time. Also worked in Special OP's at MacDill for 6 months.
In summer of 1998, moved back to metro Atlanta (Alpharetta)and retired from Air National Guard. Worked in financial planning for a while, then became a Life and Health Insurance agent; traveled for 10 weeks out of 2002 and 2003 to the Virginia Beach area and multiple locations in eastern NC. Had lots of free time after I quit that. Fly out west frequently for the great, wide open spaces you can't find in the southeast. I go to Vegas about twice a year to do music with friends (karaoke and bands playing around town).
Joined Myspace in late 2005. That keeps me entertained and communicating with people all over the country. My son is now involved with about half a dozen musicians/groups in the Tampa Bay area. He's working on starting his ...Expand for more
own label and has 2 bands he's worked with that are touring the whole country now (Feb-Mar 2008).
Travel a lot most years. Last year - Vegas in February, New York City; Kent, CT; London, KY, (April) most of central and southeast AZ; Dallas and San Antonio, TX; Bradenton Beach and St Augustine, FL - all in May, 2007. Then in the fall, Colorado and New Mexico.
Would love to here from anyone in either the music or travel business arenas.
My husband is a cycling fanatic and also plays tennis and hikes the Appalachian Trail. My daughter is big into horses and trains about 14 riders.
Have now been living BACK in the Atlanta area for 9 years now. Plan to move in about 7 years (somewhere out west in the summer). Looking at Bocos del Toros, Panama or elsewhere in Central America for the winter months. Would love to hear from anyone else who has these kind of retirement plans or has visited any part of Mexico or Central America besides the typical tourist attractions of Cancun, Cozumel, etc.
I have a granddaughter, Rhiley, age 5, and a grandson, Cade (will be 2 on March 20, 2008). My son, the musician, has lots of Baby Momma drama, but I deal with it the best I can.
Would love to hear from any old friends or acquaintances since I have obviously moved around a lot!!!
