Karen's Story
I grew up in San Jose, CA. I lived on the East side of San Jose and sometime in 68 moved to the West side in the Cambrian Park area. I went to Junior High at Hogie Jr. High, and Graduated High School from Camden High. GO COUGARS!!!!!!!
I worked odd jobs until I joined the military in April of 1977. I never really left the US but served during the Gulf War (the first one). I am a Disabled Veteran and now serve veterans with the Disabled American Veterans Service Organization.
During duties and watch standing there was a lot of down time so I found books I liked and began to read them. This is kind of funny because growing up I really hated reading; because of my slow reading due to a learning disability, it took a long while for me to read something that was interesting and fun to read. Over time I finally found a Genre of books and now I cant stop reading.
I also love to do crafts and enjoy my cat and my grand kids. I just added a new family member into my household, a new grandson, (my only grandchild that is biological), and he is one of many I have in a slew of grand kids. I have two Biological Kids and the rest well.............. there's a lot of foster kids and the rest are street kids I helped in one way or another Many of my extended family are foster kids that I have taken into my home. I worked at Siltec Electronics for about a year and other oddball jobs before joining the Navy at 20 years old. Stayed in for a little over 15 years. Got Downsized out in 1992 and co Owned a Video Store for 8 years before moving to Washington State where I am Service Officer for the Disabled American Veteans in Port Angeles, WA. I enjoy doing this job ........ but travel a lot. I enjoy the accomplishment of seeing a veteran walk into my office with tears in their eyes and a great big check in hand. I helped do that for that person WOW! Than is a FANTASTIC Feeling. I Believe GOD put me in this job just for that reason Thank you Jesus for this position!
