Karen's Story

Life Well i don't have a chopper but sure do ride on the back of them often, via motorcycle taxi's which are so helpful. Today alone i took 9 rides! They range in distance to 500 meters (hey yes, i'm lazy but it's so blasted hot during the day here and i'm forbidden by the locals to walk alone at night) up to 10 K this morn for coffee (all the local shops were closed, it was a city holiday). Yes, i have a husband and 3 kids; bascially a lovely family and we all serve the Lord together in Bangkok, Thailand. My kids were born in 1988, 1991 (just after the Twins won!) and in 1994. I am engaged in learning language; too bad i didn't work harder when I was in Spanish class -- this would have been a bit easier; though Thai is really different than Spanish for sure. I have so many suprises since I have been here; so much that has broken my heart. The Thai people have stolen my heart and in particular my language tutor who is also a cultural informant and helper. We ae missionaries with the Baptist General Conference. No, I wasn't a Christian in high school! My journey toward reconcilation with God through Jesus came about after being married for some years and even having children and being drawn to move to Ely, MN to "find ourselves". It was a dream-come-true when everything wo...Expand for more
rked out in just a few short months from having the dream in the first place, the dream to move our young family up to Northern Minnesota, preferably Ely; and even though we yet did not know him or love him, God delievered us there; allowed us to meet Mark and Dianna who loved us patiently until we finally were awakened to the beauty and majesty of the Lord Jesus Christ. In those days my husband, Todd Indehar, was a political activist and I was a mom who started a La Leche League Group. We eventually planted a church and then got a vision to cross cultural ministries which ended up calling us to move back to the Twin Cities for equiping for foreign missions. So we moved back; became members of Bethlehem Baptist Church and began prep. In that time we found ourselves in Bangkok, Thailand and with a vision for church planting among the urban poor. My best friend here is an urban poor who moved down from his home town in Northern Thailand (which, btw, is beautiful!) to make a living. His wife works in a different part as well and their children live with his wife's mother in NE Thailand, typical for the working poor in Bangkok. Sept. 19, 2006 OUR FIRST COUP! Pretty strange, classmates, pretty strange. Yes, this is a 3rd world country. With love, Karen PS please contact me....
