Karen's Story
Life
I'm living in Santa Monica, CA, with my husband (married 8/8/09!) and sons (ages 24 and 16). I was working at a big aerospace company as a systems engineer until I got laid off in 2011. Since I got laid off, I've taken UCLA Extension classes to earn their Astronautical Engineering Certificate, and I'll be finishing my Master's Degree in Systems Engineering in December 2015. Life is busy and interesting here, and I try to make it back to the midwest about once a year while I haven't been working (Christmas -- I guess I miss those winter temps!). ng, participating in scouts with my younger son in the parent committee, or attending church events, I like to read, watch movies both at home and in the movie theaters, surf the internet, walk the neighborhood or hike, and visit museums or amusement parks every once in a while.
My goal after I finish my degree is to find a job supporting a space program or satellite project. I've focused on small satellites on projects (when I can) at school, and I've been watching the progress of NASA programs and commercial space projects. I've also started a blog at karengrothe.com.
