Karen's Story

First of all - Happy New Year Y'All! And secondly - if anyone saw my "autobiography" in the last reunion collection that I'm aware of (2004-5)- - - Please disregard mine! It was a joke written by my dear old best friend (and superlative, published! fiction writer) Jan Gleiter. It was submitted with an introduction saying the above, but this important info was struck from the final version, thereby making me look like a a completely insensitive pompous ass! (If you missed that particular biography- oh goody!) Here is one from my own hand: Although my very first career goal was to be Princess Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring (remember Howdy Doody), I went through a number of other wonderful careers before getting back to that. I started as a counselor in a women's clinic; then was an art teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools; a conservator at the Library of Congress; a therapist in family preservation, with homeless people in Denver, and with Hospice, in Maine. I finally had an opportunity to try out being Princess Summer-Fall-Winter-Spring in the Maine woods in recent years, but that wasn't quite it either, so I'm now enjoying...Expand for more
painting and living in the city - Somerville, MA (by Cambridge and Boston). I think I must hold some outstanding record in our class, my having been married to two members of my graduating class. I wouldn't be particularly proud of this fact, except that they were very good guys and I've been grateful for all I've learned and experienced with them both (most of it anyway). The first was David Rogg, with whom I learned enormous things and had two wonderful daughters, and who is now happily remarried to a great lady. Second was Ken Sumner, our valedictorian, whom I re-met at our 19th reunion. We had many excellent years together but after 15 -. the next part is very sad - wonderful Ken died of a sudden heart attack in 2005. Immediately my list of priorities was collapsed into just a few. It's taken awhile, but I'm once again passionately enjoying my life - being fully in my loving relationships with family and friends, and enjoying real contacts with strangers; always learning stuff; painting and being creative; dancing around; and being awake as much as I can be (except when I asleep). Blessings to you all. Karen
