Karen's Story
I have had an unusual life. So, I will tell you a little at a time as we get reaquainted.
For now, I will update you with the fact that I moved to Durango, Colorado 2 months ago from California for my next adventure.
. . . .
It's been 18 months since my last input of information.
. . . .
I completed the townhomes along the river in Durango and moved again.
To let you know, my background has been real estate development - some commercial, but mostly residential subdivisions.
I also had a vineyard in Solvang, California and co hosted the Santa Barbara food and wine festival.
For several years, I performed on stage singing and acting along with running my construction company and vineyard. I was involved in racing horses from Long Acres/Emerald Downs in Washington State, to Del Mar California. Arabians were my favorite horses which led to Scottsdale shows etc.
November, 2008, I moved to Texas and purchased a lovely 5,000 square foot home on a golf course and small man made lake. The homes in the neighborhood are all custom. I can actually drive through the neighborhood and no 2 homes are alike. It seems to attact a great deal of professional football, basketball and baseball players as neighbors.
I rescue animals and own 7 dogs, 2 cats, a parrot and 4 other small birds. When I had my ranch/vineyard in Solvang, my 2 sons and I ran a wildlife sanctuary/rescue facility as well as domestic animal facility on the property. You never knew what kind of animal would arrive. One day we would have a mountain lion and the next horses that were burned in fires.
My most interesting pets were a Colorado Red Fox and an albino racoon. They had been attacked in the wild and could not be rehabilitated due to their medical needs. They lived together and I walked them on leashes.
My favorite sports were scuba diving, surfing, snow skiing and horseback riding.

he place I felt most at home was on stage with a great band and my microphone. I was offered recording contracts, but I did not want that kind of "life on the road". I used my voice to raise money for the arts and hospitals in and around Santa Barbara.
Additionally, I was offered roles in movies, but due to my christian beliefs, I declined because of the scripts. I couldn't exactly tell my grandchildren to go see me in movies like "Dead Man Walking". I always said that if they wanted to remake the "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" I would be interested, but then no one could top Debbie Reynolds! And now 20 years has passed, I am not exactly the "Babe" any more... I am Grandmother material now!
I won't be staying in Texas. I am here to spend my Mother's last few years of life living near her. My Father passed away 4 years ago.
God has blessed me with lovely homes. I have always invited homeless people to live with me in order to help them get a step up in life. As one person, or family leaves, God just puts another in my path.
At the moment, I have a husband, wife and child under my wing. It will be such a joyful Christmas with a 10 year old girl opening presents. Christmas is just more fun when children are around. This couple lost everything in California - completely wiped out. It is so very sad to see a family that worked so hard for years - crash.
New Update...........
After 2 years living with me, the Contrereas family have moved into their own home in San Antonio. Next month, March of 2012, I have a new family arriving with 2 children ages 4 and 6 with special needs. I am looking forward to sharing time with this family.
I am back in real estate selling homes around the Dalls/Fort Worth Metroplex, but not involved in construction any more.
My two sons live in Tacoma and Lake Tahoe along with my 5 grandchildren - ages 19 down to 4 years old.
