Karen's Story

My schools include Kodiak High School, Alaska Methodist University, AIU online and lots of grant, community mobilization and other relevant trainings. Ted Woods and I were married in June 1968 and had our son, Brian in 1970 on Kodiak. I married Greg Peterka in September 1977. Our daughter, Annie was born the following September and our daughter, Bethie was born in 1980. Greg adopted Brian in 1982 and I thank God that he is Brian's father and raised him to be the responsible and caring man he is today. We have 5 grandchildren, 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters ages 17, 16, 15, 13 and 2 and of course they are all adorable and we love them to pieces. Greg retired in 2011 after 31 years as Engineering Manager for the PUD of Skagit County - that's the local water company. He is a fly fisherman and ties flies - he even has some in the encyclopedia of flies. I have worked many jobs starting with the crab canneries on Kodiak and then Office Manager at the Kodiak Mirror - my wedding picture and birth of Brian pictures were front page news! I worked at the hospitals in Skagit County for almost 10 years in billing, accounting, purchasing and the E.R. I managed an educational theatre group of tee...Expand for more
nagers from 1991 until 2007 - I love working with teens. I was the Skagit County Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse and Violence Coordinator from 1992-2007. I learned to write grants and did so successfully for 20 years in Skagit County. I retired due to health issues and to care for my father who was suffering from Parkinson's until his death in 2010. I went to our first class reunion on Kodiak in 1998 - our 30 year reunion - with my dad. My dad took so many pictures it took me an hour to look at them all. I'm going to try to make an album of all the pictures to take to the reunion in September 2013. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. Greg and I spent almost two weeks in London with our daughter, Bethie, her husband and toddler in November 2012. They have lived there for two years now and this was my second trip there. Luckily they come to see us a couple times a year too. Bethie is a professional singer and you can check out her website: ElizabethHungerford.com I enjoy seeing friends on facebook and catching up. If you haven't already, send me a friend request! One of Karen's favorite quotes is:"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.".
