Karen's Story
Lets see...after graduation I married a QHHS alum (yeha I know, it didn't last) then 17 years later I met up with John Lane (who I had a huge crush on in school)one night and we haven't been apart (except during fire season) since. We have a son, Mark (good lord he eats more and his feet grow, then he gets taller!!) Teenagers are scary, how did our parents survive us? Anyway, John and I both work for the Forest Service, John is the current Fire Division Chief for the Angeles National Forest, Santa Clara/Mojave Rivers Ranger District (basically the backside of the forest from Wrightwood to the I5, and I am a Information Assistant, and currently working towards a double major in Business and Interior Design. We had been involved in 4-H with our son since we moved back to the valley in 2002, but Mark is now involved in Littlerock FFA and the new/old Alpine Grange. We have lived in Ojai, Big Bear, Apple Valley and now back home here. We live in what used to be called Sun Village, that little obscure place between Palmdale, Littlerock and Lake LA. how and for fair he has a pig, sheep, goat and turkeys. As for John, not only is he Fire Chief, he is on a national Type 1 Incident Management Team, who travels to large complex fire situations as well as natural disaster areas before and after. He has been all across the country in the years we have been married, seen many things, from fires in Florida to space shuttle recovery in Texas. With the devistating fires we have had in So Calif the past few years it has been very busy, we even lost our district office in Bouquet Canyon during the 2007 Buckweed fire. Me, well after years of being a professional floral designer, working on rose parade floats, designing floral arrangements for a large interior furniture store, and a zillion weddings, I finally decided to go back to school and finish out my degree in business and interior design. Hoping that when John retires in a few years, we can strike out with our own business of redesigning and building homes. Or just retire to our front porch on a log cabin in the mountains and watch the grass grow. Naaaa, lol, we'ed be to bored. So as you can see we stay pretty busy.
