Karen's Story
Life
My Spouse
We met on a blind date for the 4th of July fireworks at the Washington Monument in Washington, DC. It was 1969 and he had just graduated from Kansas State University and had moved to Maryland for his first job. I was in Washington for the summer on an internship at the National Zoo. We were introduced by mutual friends with whom we still are friends and for whom we accepted the responsibilities of godparenting their 2 sons.
My Pets
Rascal was with us for almost 15 years - Sasha was with us for almost 14 years. We have lasted over 5 years without a dog in the family.
My Job
I am a newly retired librarian ...Expand for more
after having completed almost 40 years in the profession. I have enjoyed positions as a young adult/fiction specialist in a public library in Maryland, reference/research legislative librarian for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington DC, head children's librarian/district children's coordinator for a library in Pennsylvania, regional correctional librarian for the Maryland State Department of prisons (inside work!), Director of Learning Resources for Baltimore International College, and branch manager and Head of Human Resources for Howard County Library in Maryland. I also owned a day care center for 9 years.
