Karen's Story
Graduating from the Unversity of Tennessee in Deaf Education, I moved to New York and performed around the State with the Experimental Educational Theatre of the Deaf. Although I was offered a scholarship from the University of Rochester in Theatre, I went home to Winter Park to care for my Mother who had recently had surgery. I found myself teaching in the middle school and attended the Aloma United Methodist Church.
My husband, Scott was studying at the Naval Nuclear Power school and moved to an instructor position. His new boss was my Sunday school teacher and we met over a table of ice cream sundae fixings at a farewell party for another class member. We dated for three years and were married in 1986.
After getting a MS in Instructional design, I developed computer based and traditional training for Martim Marietta, NASA's Lock...Expand for more
heed and for Harris corporation.
We then moved to Atlanta, GA for my husband's job and I became a Director with Mary Kay Cosmetics while we raised our two children, Croix and Rachel. We homeschooled them through graduation and they are now seniors; Croix in college and Rachel in highschool. Theatre arts are still an important part of our life as expressed through my daughter's talents.
Currently I teach at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf and administer the home school program for my daughter. We love the Lord with our hearts, minds and souls and love learning from our church, 12Stone. They have fabulous podcasts on various subjects at 12stone.com.
I have enjoyed catching up with many of you on facebook but my one ardent wish would be to reconnect with Susan Maurer. Please let me know if you are in touch with her. Blessings!
