Karen's Story

Life A picture would be too shocking! Imagine, if Scott Cressy asked me in a telephone call before a long ago reunion how he would know (recognize) me amongst the crowd and I replied, "my hair is white"! He said, "Really? like Barbara Bush??" I had to say he ws correct and now it's whiter than white and I am a grandmother of 2. I stay in touch with many of our classmates, a core of the females remain close and even get away from time to time for a weekend or whatever time we can spare. Believe it or not, my mother is not only alive at nearly 92, her social schedule tops mine! She did finally move out of that big house in town but remains close at the Trestle Way Community, still in excellent health! My 2 daughters have settled in VA and OR so we don't see them often enough, but they come here and we go to see them as often as we can. Unfortunately, I had to retire from my job of 29 years a couple of years ago. I stayed with it as long as I could, because I did enjoy my employment there, but I had to give into my disability. I have osteo-arthritis, osteoporosis, spinal sclerosis and CMT, which generally takes the patients mobility from them and a wheelchair would be the only thing to keep me from being an invalid. It's discouraging upon occasion, but I sincerely try to look at the positive side of everything.I will be able to hug and spend quality time with my grandch...Expand for more
ildren, I won't complain. I've never As long as been in favor of drugs, and now, as the golden years quickly approach (for you too!), I'm taking everything that's available and prescribed for me, including a cane! I walk slowly with the cane, very necessary, and decorated it myself, entitling it "denial"! My personal goal is to reduce the amount of medication I take and remain mobil as long as possible. Enough of that.......! A joy in our lives is the addition of 2 special girls. My best friend was dying of cancer and asked me to make her a promise that when she died, I would care for her daughters. Of course I said yes, and making a long story short, we soon had 2 Korean girls on our doorstep. They had some adjusting to do, as did we, but now, after 10 years, we can't imagine our lives without them. The oldest is a doctor in San Francisco, continuing her studies to specialize in internal medicine. She was married last September in wine country, Nappa and Sonoma, and what a beautiful bride she made. We were happy to attend as her parents! Her younger sister is a clothing designer, traveling all over the world choosing fabrics for their next season, what a great job! They come home as often as possiible and usually spend their holidays with us. They have been unanamously accepted by our friends and families, which makes for no difficulty fitting in and being wanted.
