Karl's Story
KARL T. CLEBAK, JR., Captain, Civil Engineer Corps, (USN Retired). He completed 30 years of military service (Active and Reserve combined). Captain Clebak was born in Jersey City and raised in Laurence Harbor, NJ. He graduated from Madison Twp High School, and the Newark College of Engineering with a BS in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MS in Civil Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He also completed post graduate study at Pennsylvania State University in Architectural Engineering and Rutgers University Law School. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi (engineering honor society) and Pi Tau Sigma (mechanical engineering honor fraternity). Commissioned Lieutenant JG, USN in 1980. Attended CECOS Basic Class 151 and was assigned to Northern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command. Affiliated with the Seabees in 1981. Since then he has served in numerous positions including Company Commander, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer with NMCB-21 and as Executive Officer of NMCB-13. Officer of Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, Commander 7th Naval Construction Regiment and Commanding Officer Environmental Engineering Unit Atlantic. Captain Clebak is Seabee Combat Warfare qualified and completed USMC Combat Engineer School. He also attended Naval War College and graduated from the USMC Command and Staff College.
In Civilian life he a Senior Manager for Public Service Electric and Gas Company. Responsible for electric and gas engineering, design and construction. He has been an Engineer and Maintenance Control Director at NWS Earle, and Engineering Director at NAEC Lakehurst. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and has taught as an Adjunct Professor at NJIT. Recipient of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Certificate of Award for Achievement. He is a Eucharistic minister in the Catholic church.
Karl and his wife, Ann Marie, reside in Landing, New Jersey. They have two married children Dr, Karl T. Clebak, III MD who resides with his wife Angie and practices medicine in the Charlottesville Va. area, and Michelle (Clebak) Holzapfel who is a teacher in Wall, NJ where she also resides with her husband Dave.
