Karl's Story
After High School I went to work for Armor Elevator in the factory. In 1965 I went into the Navy reserve and served two years of active duty on the destroyer USS Norris DD859. The first year my brother Tio and I were on the Norris together. He left the ship to return to civilian life before we went to Viet Nam. That was an interesting trip. We sailed from Newport, RI through the Panama Canal and half way around the world to get there across the Pacific Ocean, and after doing our time supporting ground forces, we left Viet Nam and continued the rest of the way around the world. some interesting countries, then back across the Atlantic Ocean to Newport RI.
After leaving the Navy, I went to work for Motion Performance building Race Cars. A long time dream. After a short while, I realized it wasn't for me, and returned to the elevator buisiness where I spent the next 38 years working in construction and maintenance. I liked my work very much and spent many years in schools getting more education to be better at my job. Upon retiring, my wife and I moved to New Mexico where we enjoy riding my Harley Davidson almost year round. The only downside is that I don't get to see my kids and grand kids as often as I'd like. I have a daughter and son and they have five kids batween them.
