Karla's Story

Hello Mates, March 25, 2015 It has been awhile since I last communicated with you all and my life has been through many changes. On April 30th I will be a single lady again. This is not what I planned for this time of my life but there it is. I am still in this lovely little city of Enumclaw, enjoying my home, my Westie, Molly, friends and family. On January 23rd of this year I went to the seminar "Dare to Be" with 3 lady friends and came home a Born Again Christian. My life has totally changed and I have found peace and safety in the Lord. It is true about the peace and tranquility that comes after a storm in life as in nature. Karla Kantola Hello again, October 26,2013 We made the move to Enumclaw and, after a lot of work making this house a home, are settle in our new place. We moved to a nice little neighborhood with sidewalks and tree lined street and love it here. The neighbors are very friendly and happy to have this quiet old couple next door. The puppies have a fenced yard but Molly, our escape artist, has made it past the front door a few times sending salesman, carpenters and me running after. Scary at the time but Keystone Cop funny afterwards. Since we moved here in June, Ron has made the trip to St Elizabeth Hospital 3 times. The last time I drove him at 4:30 in the morning because he couldn't breath. It was the scariest 5 minute drive of my life. Neither of us thought we would get there in time. Unfortunately, Ron's health problems have multiplied and he is pretty much confined to his chair with short walks in between. This is what precipitated the move, but everything has happened so fast. Congestive heart failure is robbing this 6 ft 4 in, 77 year old man of his time in this life. We are very fortunate to have wonderful doctors so close by. Life throws us many curves and growing older is getting to be more challenging as the days get shorter. I have put the care of others first and foremost most of my life. I just hope the good Lord sees fit to allow me time to enjoy many more years. I am missing fun and laughter. It would be wonderful to enjoy the pleasure in being me. May 9th, 2013 Thought I had better update my story. We are in the process of selling our home in Gig Harbor and moving to Enumclaw. I hate to leave this place, the yard is so beautiful, filled with color and fragrant aromas wafting in the breeze. Ron's health is going down hill fast and we are moving to be closer to my daughter. She will be able to help me take care of Ron when he needs it. Diane is in her first year of schooling to become a nurse. I will also be able to help her out by taking care of Lilli while Diane is in school. It is good to have a daughter who is a nurse living close by. The years are creeping up on all of us. It seems that turning 70, now 71, is a time for the body to start breaking down. All the aches and pains we had when we were a ...Expand for more
few years younger are now more pronounced. Each of the Fab Five Fall City Girls is struggling with one ailment or another. Be it ours or our mates, in some instances, both. We are beginning to lose close friends and loved ones. The mind and memory aren't as quick to recall information. Somehow my mind thinks that I am still young and can do the things I used to. Then sometimes I get going too fast or climb on a ladder and fall because my balance is haywire. This is a sad state of affairs. Me, I am not yet defeated. I am planning some happy times in my future, filled with love and laughter. When I leave this life, it will be with a smile on my face for a life well lived. There is still a lot of life in this old girl. I have a lot of living to catch up on. How about you? Lets shoot for having a ball clear into our late 90's. Hi Mates, We did it! Kathy Corliss Kranseler hosted the Fall City Girlfriends' reunion at her house in Palm Desert, CA on the 26th of February. Dianne Baldasar, Caroline Sitterding Hoff and I all got together at Kathy's for a wonderful 4 days. Sandi Slott Sugden was unable to be with us because her husband, Ken, had to undergo bypass surgery a couple weeks before the grand event. We really missed her because she is a big part of who we are as a group. Kathy, Caroline and Sandi had all gotten together at Sandi's place in Sierra Vista, Arizona the year before for just one day. They had so much fun that they decided that the Fall City group who had been together since the first grade through high school should all reunite at Kathy's the next time. I had not seen Caroline or Dianne since high school so of course I had to be there. It was amazing. Kathy sent us the itinerary and then the updated itinerary as we all decided what we would like to do. A little wine, an exchange of pictures and lots of talking and remembering filled the hours until it seemed like we had never been apart. Kathy was an outstanding hostess. For that and so much more, we all feel so very grateful. As our chief organizer of events, Kathy had plans perking for our next year's reunion before we had even said our goodbyes. In May 9th of 2010 the five of us and our mates (minus mine)will be going on a cruise aboard the Golden Princess. We will travel up the Pacific Coast, beginning in Los Angeles with stopovers in Catalina, San Francisco, Victoria, BC and ending in Vancouver, BC. Now that is very progressive but we have a whole year to get ready. As for me, I feel like Alice in Wonderland. Everything is getting curiouser and curiouser. For this small town girl, the trip to California this year was over the top. Check out my photo albums. I have added a 2nd album for our reunion pictures. You know it is true what they say about girlfriends. The men in you life may come and go, but girlfriends are forever. These Fall City girlfriends are the best. Love ya, Karla
