Karole's Story

Life My husband of 43 years, Richard "Dick" Frankenfield, died on June 6, 2004. I have decided that there is too much life left to be enjoyed and have taken to the road in my 35' CruiseMaster motor home. I drove over 4500 miles last summer (2005) - - 2700 miles by myself and the rest following a very dear friend of 30 years (Leonard Walla) in his 5th wheel trailer. After spending Christmas with his family in Montana, and spending many hours on the phone since, we have decided to travel together again this summer(2006). Our plan is to cover the Rockies from Montana to New Mexico, but we are going to try to make a side trip to Oklahoma for the reunion over the Labor Day weekend. 2007 Update - In August of 2006, Leonard bought a piece of property in Oro Grande, NM - population now that we are here - 42. I've been told that number can increase to as high as 50, depending on how many grandchildren visit on a weekend! We have spent the winter here and have fallen madly in love with the sunsets over the Organ Mts. to the west, the sunrises over the Sacramentos to the east and spending days riding our quads through the Jarillo Mts that border the north edge of our lit...Expand for more
tle community. There are about 500 abandoned mines in that small range and we are trying to explore as many as possible. If its a mineral or metal, it was probably mined here at one time or another. We've been able to collect several gem quality stones as well. Still having a ball - even if the dreaded "65" number is rapidly approaching! Hope all of you are doing the same. (Update 2007) Leonard and I have not only been traveling together, spending our days together and trying to keep up with his two sons, daughter-in-law and brand new grandbaby together, but it seems like our lives just weren't complete without each other - so - on November 29th he got down on one knee (REALLY!!)and proposed. We went to visit our former pastor and wife who were old camping buddies now serving a congregation in Buffalo, WY and tied the knot at their church. Workplace Guess I just couldn't get enough of "school" - at least until I finally decided to retire in 2003. I had been employed with the Roswell Independent School District as Assistant Food Service Supervisor. Believe me, I enjoy traveling and sleeping late much more than answering my phone at 4:45 am every morning!!
