Kate's Story
Life
I married Steve Strauch (also a Gunderson grad but 2 years younger than me!) on April 9, 1994. We have 2 beautiful little girls - Christina was born 8/6/96 and Alicia was born 8/7/98. We didn't plan on having them exactly 2 years apart but I guess it's fitting since our birthdays are 11/3 and 11/7. I'm a V.P. Senior Underwriter in the Small Business Administration Dept. (SBA Government guaranteed loans) at Wells Fargo Bank and Steve is an equipment engineer for Micron.
Steve's prior employer moved us to Meridian, Idaho in August 2006 and we're very happy here. Now that it's been almost 5 years, we've really settled in and despite Steve being layed off in May 2009 we decided to stay rather than return to CA. He has since found new work and we're fine - we rode out almost 2 years of underemployment while he worked as a corrections officer at the medium security prison...a job that wasn't fun but helped pay the bills. Compared to many during the recession, we consider oursevles blessed, it was tough...Expand for more

Workplace
I started working for Wells Fargo 2 weeks after graduating from HS. It was a part time job in check processing and I only planned to work for the bank through college. After completing my 2 year degree at West Valley, I decided to move out so I needed a fulltime job, I started working as a credit analyst in commercial banking and things took off from there. I completed my bachelors degree while working fulltime and going to school at night. While finishing my degree, I continued to pursue better positions within Wells Fargo, including working in San Francisco for 18 months, only to come back to San Jose to start a family. I was promoted to my current position as a senior underwriter in Wells Fargo's Small Business Administration lending group in July 2003 and it is by far the most challenging, yet fun job I've ever had. Fortunately when we were relocated I had lots of support from management at work and I've been able to continue doing my job remotely here in Meridian.
