Katherine's Story

Life I have been living in Fulton, NY since 2003 with my husband, Sean Collins and my "bonus" son, Cort. We bought a house here in September 2004 and got married September 24, 2005. Sean's son is 7 years old and lives with us full-time. When Cort was 4 years old, I became an instant mom and I didn't have to lose my girl-ish figure! ha ha I don't have kids of my own, but I do have a cat named Vinny who is 4 years old and weighs a whopping 17 pounds - he's not fat he's just big boned! He is black and white and is really a good cat. In March 2006, we had an addition to our family when we brought home our Black Lab puppy. She was born on January 9th and we named her Celtie Jade. She is Sean's dream dog and he is already doing a great job training her to go hunting with him (duck/goose). She is a good girl and a smart dog! She is growing so fast! The cat and dog are adjusting to each other. They wrestle all the time and Celtie does not realize that she's bigger and more solid that Vinny and she'll just tackle him! They don't seem to be trying to hurt each other - just playing - and Vinny will get away when he's done with the puppy. They are just starting to lay next to each other on the dog's pillow - so cute! Other than that, most of my family live locally and we are very close. Life is pretty good right now. School To be honest, I don't know which teacher inspired me the most. I remember the ones I liked and disliked though! Contact me and we'll talk about who my crush was - and to this day I'd probably still blush and my knees would get weak around him (even though I'm married). He helped me get through some long class periods in Physics class! That brings back some nice memories! College I loved college! I went to SUNY Brockport and graduated in May 2001 with a Bachelor of Health Science with a Concentration in Alcohol and Substance Abuse Studies (not what I began with!!). My freshman roommate was wonderful and I really lucked out...Expand for more
with her. There was great food, but I did not gain the Freshman 15 - I lost it with all the walking and no more workouts in the weight room for cross country and track. I also learned a lot more about clothes and hair (I cringe when I look back at high school pictures). I joined a sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon, my sophmore year and it was a great learning experience and lots of fun. I was an average student, made the Dean's List a couple of times and joined a Health Science Honor Society. Overall, college was a very positive experience. Workplace After college I got a job about a month after I graduated. I worked in an Inpatient Rehab called the SBH Willows Inpatient Unit in Syracuse on James Street. I worked there for almost 4 years as a primary counselor. I really enjoyed it there, but I hated the long commute everyday. I began working for Oswego County Opportunities in the beginning of April 2005. I work as a Medicaid Service Coordinator for people with Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (MRDD) and I love it. You may or may not know that I had worked since I was a teenager for the Oswego County Respite Program out of the Oswego YMCA with the MRDD population and that was where my roots were established. I may continue my education by going back to college for my Master's Degree in Special Education to become a Special Education Teacher... Who knows? For now, I love what I am doing and that's what matters. Military I did not ultimately join the military, but I am extremely grateful to our classmates who have. I got a taste of the military when I did ARMY ROTC for one semester at Brockport. I really enjoyed it and I learned a lot about the military. My favorite part was dressing in the BDU's and crawling through the mud!! (Of course I would - I was a cross country runner!) Seriously though, thank you to all of the soldiers and my former classmates from Oswego High School who have been involved with the military.
