Katherine's Story

Life Post-East High graduation I attended Carroll College, Helena, Montana '84-'88, was captain of collegiate co-ed cheerleading squad, competed in running (won a race!), biking (won a race!), skiing (won s.p.a. at a race in Jackson --ha ha if you know what that is), diving events (won Frontier Conference championship--woo-hoo!); graduated in '88 with BA in Communications/Psych minor. Went home that summer to Alaska to be with family, lost my Dad to cancer in Dec. '88. Worked in Seattle and got my Teacher's certification in '91 (almost finishing Master's degree). Married smart, funny, handsome blue-eyed blond doctor "Downhill Racer/Sundance Kid" (my college sweetheart) in June '91; had three babies in five years (and tried to keep our cool under the Tucson sun) while hubby did surgery residency at U of A; then in '96 we moved back to Montana, where my husband began a very busy general surgery practice and I stayed very busy with three more babies in six years. I feel so blessed to be the full-time mom of these 6 beautiful blondies and so lucky to be the wife of such a great guy, who's currently the Chief of Surgery at St. Vincent's Regional Hospital in Billings, Montana. I am pretty busy with kids ages 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 and I hope and pray that I can "do 'em proud"; and although good housekeeping/ organization/glamorous self-perfection are not exactly my forte`s right now --(show me someone who's been changing diapers/nursing babies nonstop for 12 years whose are!), I guess I must be do...Expand for more
ing something right according to those who know my kids. We keep super-busy with skiing, hockey, dance, ballet, violin, gymnastics, skating, taekwondo, piano, tee-ball, baseball, soccer, little-guy football, hunting, fishing, tennis, golf, swimming, diving and water-skiing in the summer when we escape to Swan Lake, and cheer on the defending back-to-back National Champion Carroll Fighting Saints football team at Homecoming in the fall. I teach my kids' RE classes and volunteer when I can in their classrooms or school library. I still like to think of myself as a "runner" but overuse (undershape?) injuries plague me right now. (I beat the twenty-somethings in the Women's Run while pregnant with baby #6, though, pushing my 4-year-old in a baby jogger-stroller! Yeah, I know, they were probably all running the 5-mile course and I was only going for 2, but the best part was, my 10-year-old daughter beat me and medaled in her age group!) My goals: medaling in my age group as a mom o'six in any distance; getting ahead of the kid-fueled entropy around here; regular dates with my hubby; enjoying the ride and letting go of the details (like babies who love to unload the dishwasher relentlessly, banana peels under the carseats, piles of laundry, pinching more than an inch, hormonally-challenged complexion to this day, no time for cute hair, no time for anything, sassy pre-teens, kids that grow up before you have a chance to find those hand-me-downs); and when this is all done being together in heaven.
