Katherine's Story
Life
I left Fort Walton and moved to Concord North Carolina March 2006. I'm adjusting to colder weather, beautiful terrain, higher taxes and a new house-we upsized (Only two of us but we use all four bedrooms). I have been teaching ballroom dancing for the last six years in Florida and have opened a studio here.
I like North Carolina.
Welcome to the heart of NASCAR!
I live less than a mile (as the crow flies) from the Lowe's Motor Speedway Racetrack-we can hear them practicing. We aren't NASCAR fans but the people who are, are certainly enthusiastic.
I have two daughters in their mid to late twenties who, alas, live in FWB.
Along with the five grandchildren.
Ten hours away.
(Double alas!)
North Carolina has some interesting differences. The curving roads are nice and quite a change after FWB. Everything is spread out with land and woods. This makes for a pleasant drive.
And a lot of roadkill.
And very ...Expand for more
little passing.
It is so common to pass in FWB, but here, because of all the curves, the passing zones are brief and infrequent.
Another difference is the humidity. The people here complain about humidity.
Ha!
High humidity is when you walk out of the air conditioning from your front door to your car in the driveway and in that fifteen seconds you are already sweaty and wet.
THAT'S humidity.
(These people are amateurs!)
I 'm headed to Las Vegas in June for a week-long dance camp, and then to Provo Utah for another week in August to attend an educational symposium. Flying nowdays is an adventure in logistics-remember back when you just walked your party right out to the tarmac to say goodbye?
And now you can't even take a bottle of water on the plane unless it was purchased after the security check.
Dylan said it.
The Times they are a-changin'.
Well,
They've changed.
(We aren't in Kansas anymore, Toto.)
