My favorite volunteer service is with "Big Brothers/Big Sisters". I have served as a "Big" for nearly a year and it is very satisfying to see the happiness and confidence that grows in the "little" as they realize that you are there specially for them and that you are not going to go away. Every one needs to be special to someone.
I always wanted to be a dog groomer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an absurd idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
As you can probably tell, my obsession is dogs. I personally have 5 dogs ranging from a Shih Tzu to a Great Dane. I have rescued, rehabilitated, trained and placed over 350 d...Expand for more
ogs in the past 10 years. The most recent is shown in the profile photo with me. Locally, I am known as a "dog whisperer"! I have seen things in this community that would put "Animal Cops Houston" to shame. Thankfully, I was successful in helping those pitiful
creatures become healthy, happy and a successful part of their forever homes.
My dogs all serve with me as therapy assistance dogs at our local nursing home. That is also a very rewarding volunteer service. The elders enjoy the visits from my pets and look forward to their return visits. I even get requests as to which pet comes the next time. To see the smiles and sometimes the tears that these brief encounters generate is quite moving.
My favorite way to relax is to listen to music and either make a craft, write a letter or comb one of my dogs.
