Kathie's Story

After Wakefield I went to William and Mary. Graduated in 70 and married Mike Munson (West Point 69). We moved to Germany for a year, then I worked at Pentagon while he was in Nam. Lived lots of places - my favorites being Panama, Jamaica, Spain and Key West - before he took ROTC assignment at Rose-Hulman Inst of Tech in Terre Haute, IN. We chose that location because it was halfway between my family in VA and Mike's in OK. When he retired 16 years ago,he became a financial advisor for Edward Jones. The stock market had been a passion for many years, so was a natural 2nd career. We've been able to continue our travels by being with Jones, as he wins 2 trips a year - just got back from a week on the Riviera Maya in Mexico, and we're planning a cruise on the Arabian Sea in Feb. He retires from this job in another year, though, so only have 3 more trips to go on! Kristina was born 34 years ago and is really fun to have as a daughter. Was a pharmaceutical rep in Vegas until was in accident where she got multiple fractures and a TBI. We had her at home with us for a year going through various rehabs but is living in Indianapolis now. Michael graduated from Stanford in O8 and is paying off his full ride by working for government in Fort Meade for 4 1/2 years. He's our brain: 1600 on SAT's in sophomore year, went to National Spelling Bee in 4th grade, was state chess champion for his grade in 3rd grade....he's funny, witty, and has always wanted to be known as an athlete rather than for his ...Expand for more
brains... (He's a runner. Also a mountain climber) I stayed home with my kids, although had several part time jobs when they were in school - like Director of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, when we lived in Key West. Was director of Kids Hope USA for 7 years, on staff at our church, but quit that just before went to Vegas to be with Kristie the 9 weeks following her accident (in coma for 3 wks). Kids Hope is a mentoring program where a church partners with the nearest elementary school to provide mentors for their neediest kids. I loved the job, and after bringing the ministry to Terre Haute, within 3 years we had it going in all of the 18 elem schools in our county, as well as several in nearby counties - each one partnered with a local church. Now I'm thinking about volunteering with CASA, which advocates for children in the judicial system. I've pretty much taken time off since Kristie moved out - just going to bible studies, swimming a couple times a week, gardening, bird-watching, Zumba classes, traveling (my mom and sisters are still mostly in VA), fixing up the house. Would love to hear from old friends! Update - Sept 09 - broke my back in car accident, am 3 weeks into the 6 weeks of healing process. Update -had "balloon kyphoplasty" for compressed L-1 vertebrae - am all well now. Looking forward to cruise of Arabian Sea in February, starting in Dubai. Also a short-term mission trip in either March or May to either Haiti or Mozambique - am excited about it, but haven't decided which.
