Kathleen's Story
Life
It was a dark and stormy night..., no wait, it wasn't, it was early morning; but none of that matters now.
Graduated SPHS 1968, thought I was going to Hofstra, started to worry about the expense (I laugh at that now after paying for two kids in Fordham and NYU), and decided to go to Queensborough Community College. Finished there in 1970 and was slated to go to Queens College. Changed my mind again because I knew I was getting married and thought the responsible thing was to get a job and save some money. I married Al Kaminski, who I started going out with in high school in 1971 and we are still married and still talking to each other 50years later. He was a member of the class of '65 and we often hear from people in his class - they have had several reunions, all of them fun. I digress; went on to work at some really interesting places, like Time Inc. Ridgefield Police Department, Virgin Atlantic Airways over the years. While I was working for Time Inc. I went back to school full time (this time Fordham in the Bronx). Time Warner was generous enough to pay for my degree while I was working there. Had two babies while I was in Fordham, the last one born two weeks before my graduation. I surprised myself and graduated cum laude; it seemed like a piece of cake to me after high school, and this I will never understand. We lived in Garden City for 12 years, then moved to Ridgefield, CT for 18. Found ourselves to be empty nesters but ended up moving to a larger house in Sandy Hook, CT. We always seem to go in the wrong direction, After almost 30 years in Ct, A...Expand for more
l took a job in SW Florida and off we went. We couldn't seem to adjust to the southern way of working and living and he moved on to another job and he commuted from Bangor, Maine to Estero, FL every other week. We sold the house in Florida and relocated to Fairfield, Ct , We weren't finished with the moving nonsense in 2019 we sold Fairfield and moved to a townhome in Danbury Ct. so Al wouldn't have to help move the lawn. Our oldest son Chris is married, now has a lovely preteen boy, and is living in Oregon. Our youngest son is currently unattached, dating seriously and living in Los Angeles. My family moved to Franklin Square, NY when I was a junior at Pascals and that was the home base until the last member of my immediate family passed away. I've traveled a lot, all around the world both for business and pleasure. I feel I have lived a pretty good life by anyone's standards. I have no regrets and feel I got a good education at the hands of the School Sisters of Notre Dame (elem. school), the Josephites (HS), radical libertarians (the city Universities) and the most radical of them all, the Jesuits at Fordham. I always found it wonderous that I never met anyone from my class after the one reunion I know we had at the Huntington Town House I would think that if we had another reunion, we would be more organized with email addresses and more likely to keep in touch if we desired. So if anyone out there is thinking of organizing a reunion, or just looking to meet for lunch in the NY-CT Metro area, give me a shout once we are done with this Covid stuff.
